Ron Goes to Mello FM

MELLO FM's morning man Richard 'Richie B' Burgess is calling the inclusion of Ron Muschette to the station's line-up as "formidable".

This comes after days of speculation as to the destination of Muschette after he quit at IRIE FM just over a weeks ago. He spent 14 years at the reggae radio station.

According to Burgess, he is happy with the decision of his media colleague to join the ranks of the station whose line-up also include radio veteran Barry 'Barry G' Gordon.

"I was doing an outside broadcast in Montego Bay during Soul in the Sun in October. I took a photograph with myself, Ron, Barry G and our station Manager Al Robinson and it went viral on the Internet. I interviewed Ron asking him to set his IRIE vibe aside and take on a Mello vibe, not knowing it would be a prophetic statement," Burgess told Splash.

"My station manager then met with Barry and myself as two veterans on staff and informed us of Ron's interest in coming to Mello. My words to him were: 'Run with it, anywhere he goes on the dial is an asset to that organisation.' It did not matter what time slot he was taking. So I welcome him with open arms. Having Richie B, Ron Muschette and Barry G on one station is a formidable line-up," he continued.

Yesterday, Muschette used social media to confirm what had been making the rounds since he shocked many with what seemed like a snap resignation from the St Ann-based IRIE FM.

In a teary, emotional video on his blog, Muschette noted that the decision to move away from IRIE came after a lot of thinking.

"Parting doesn't mean we don't love each other anymore, but you've got to go. It's time to grow and so I have to move on. Let's look to the future with optimism. I asked my agent to check out the markets and went searching and found what we think is the best deal," he explained.

"I've signed a new deal with Mello FM... I'm going back home to Montego Bay where it all began. I start on January 5. It's gonna be a lot of fun... a new beginning from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in a show called the Perfect Mix with Ron. It will be Ron Muschette magnified," he added.

In this new slot, Muschette will be sandwiched between Mello's morning man Richie B, who works the 6:00 am to 9:00 am show and radio veteran Barry G, who is on from 1:00 in the afternoon till 5:00 pm.

According to Muschette, "the giants of radio will be locking the daytime".

He used the nearly eight-minute-long video to thank everyone who had made his time on IRIE memorable, but did not give a reason for his resignation.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that Muschette and the management of IRIE have been at odds since the untimely passing of the station's owner Chad Young in February of this year.

Muschette, born Deron Muschette, started his radio career in the 1990s when as a playmaker attached to the entertainment staff at Sandals Montego Bay he was instrumental in the establishment of the resort's on-property radio station, WSMB. He would them move to the Montego Bay-based Radio WAVES (now Hot 102) before settling in at IRIE, hosting the morning show in a slot previously occupied by Dionne Matthis.

The last week has been a world wind of events and things happening .. but you now know where I will be for 2015. With that being said If you follow me on Facebook you would have heard talk about a Top 20 World Reggae Chart.

The overall idea of this Chart will be to feature the Top 20 Reggae Songs all over the world each week. Jah People, this chart is not limited to just Jamaica as Reggae music is now a Global Platform. This will take the best Reggae Music from all over the world and put them on this Chart so we can all have a taste of new music. My goal is to feature Reggae Music from all Seven Continents : Europe , Asia , Africa , Australia , Antarctica, North America & South America.

How to send in your Music

1. Music must be titled: Name of Artiste , Title of Song & all credits to ( Producers , Writers etc )

2. State your Country of Origin ( Jamaica , Africa , Dubai etc )

3. Song must be in MP3 format. This makes it easier for me to open and listen without downloading a Program/Software.

This chart will be launched in January of next year so I'm putting in the hard work to produce a quality show.

My Official Resignation Letter

Greetings Jah People! Below is my official Resignation Letter

I am writing to notify you that I am resigning from my job as the Presenter of Wake up Call and from Irie Fm. My last day of employment will be December 12, 2014.

I appreciate all the opportunities I have been awarded during my time with the company and also the professional guidance I’ve received. My employment at the company has allowed me to connect with the Jamaican audience in a unique way that I could not have imagined. I was also able to give hope to the young aspiring “voiceless” Jamaican Artistes and that has been one of my greatest accomplishments yet.

I would like to thank the Producers, Engineers, Technicians and all those who have helped to make my show a success from the back-end.  I have truly enjoyed my tenure at the Company over the last fifteen years.
I wish you and the company all the best and do hope that our paths will cross again in the future. If there is anything I can do to make this transition easier please don’t hesitate to ask.

I leave with a quote from Andre Gide “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”

Yours Sincerely
Deron “Ron” Muschette

RON MUSCHETTE RESIGNS

RON MUSCHETTE RESIGNS FROM IRIE FM

Kingston JA, December 12, 2014:

Jamaica’s number one radio personality Ron Muchette has resigned from Irie FM, the station he consistently assisted in capturing the number one spot on the annual All Media Surveys.

Muschette who is best known as the host of the leading morning programme ‘Wake –Up Call which occupies the 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM weekday slot, decided it was time to move on to greater heights.

“I’m grateful for my time at Irie Fm and for all the wonderful experiences it brought. I was able to travel the world and be recognized for my talent. That is an inspiration in itself and I will be forever thankful’, Muschette said in a media release.

Deron “Ron” Muschette has had a long association in the Jamaican media landscape. More than 20 years ago he started an in-house radio station while working at Sandals Montego Bay as an Entertainment Coordinator. Based on the feedback Muschette was offered a job as a radio presenter at Irie Fm in 1999.

During his tenure as host of the Wake-Up Call program at Irie Fm, Muschette who has been the top radio disc jock in the island for over a decade gave hope to many up and coming reggae artistes in Jamaica and around the world by promoting their songs. He has been instrumental in the development of the careers of many established entertainers.

Muschette’s foray into radio allowed him to travel extensively to the Caribbean, the United States, Europe and South America. His sojourns have assisted in the popularity of his programme which has a strong online listernership.

In addition to hosting a number of stage shows and events locally and overseas, Muschette recently broadcast his morning show from the Welcome to Jamrock cruise.

Muschette has promised that he will continue to give his listeners and his fans the same high energy in his future endeavors and will still be the voice for aspiring entertainers.

Additionally, Muschette would like to thank all his fans, friends, his team and listeners for their continued support over the years.

‘Words can't express the joy you've brought me and my family over the years. May Jah bless you all. Thank you and you will hear from me soon. Haile’, he added.

"No Point to Prove" Video Review

Greetings Jah People! I hope you have been keeping up with me on my Fanpage  because that's where you will get all the latest happenings. I was invited to Anguilla to check out the Video Release of "No Point to Prove" by Omari Banks.

First off, Anguilla is a beautiful Island which beautiful clear waters ( like Jamaica) and the people were extremely receptive.

The Review

The Single features Peetah Morgan from Morgan Heritage which is all about doing what you are destined to do and doing it without the consent of others , hence the title "No Point to Prove". The Video was shot in Kingston, Jamaica ( yaad )and gives the viewer a daily look into the life of Omari Banks as we see the Camera taking us through various scenes.

The Video opens with Omari stepping out of a Studio as his song is being introduced by a popular Media Personality on the Radio. He then walks through the streets of Kingston and see his poster which gives him a sense of autonomy in the Jamaican Music Scene. Throughout the Video , popular places like the Jamaica Observer, Zip 103 Fm , Knutsford Boulevard , Triple Century Sports Bar and he even stops at Sabina Park to hail his former West Indies Cricket Team mates.

The overall vibe of the Video is that of appreciation for simple things in life and of course producing quality Music. We definitely see the Video being shown on all the popular Tv Stations in Jamaica ( and worldwide ) to showcase Omari's unique sound.

Whats Hot in Entertainment

Greetings Jah People! The rainy weekend did not stop the flow of things on the music scene as we saw a lot of interesting this over the weekend.  I must send a big up to the people of Anguilla for the warm hospitality they showed over the weekend.

Gully Bop a.k.a Countryman: A part of Dance hall culture has to do with grabbing your audience whether by costume , gimmickry or even a spectacle. Over the weekend , Jamaica was introduced to a man who hails from Grants Pen known as "Countryman" . This artiste deems himself as sicker than Kartel and Alkaline combined and his fans are loving it. Decked out in full Red from head to toe in an interview on ER , Countryman takes a few jabs at popular Dance hall artistes and let them know he will be ready to take them on at Sting. CLICK to check him out on YouTube.

Lady Saw's Alter Ego : The Queen of dance-hall , Lady Saw revealed her Alter Ego! Alter Ego is Saw's latest Album which is much different from her previous Albums as it contains two gender driven songs geared at helping abused and needy women. The interesting thing about this Album is that the Sales made will be used to fund her foundation. The Album also features a collaboration with U.K Artiste Estelle.

Dancehall Fashions at Sting Launch: Sting is one of the most anticipated "Christmas Shows" in Jamaica. People from yard and abroad look forward to the clash of their favorite artistes and of course to see what they will be wearing. Speaking of Fashion; it was quite evident that the patrons at the Launch held on November 26 @ Triple Century Sports Bar came dressed to kill! There was even one young lady who had difficulty walking in her dress and had to be escorted up the stairs.

Chris Brown wins Big at Soul Train Awards: On the international scene , the Soul Train Awards was aired over the weekend on BET & Centric networks respectively. There were some great performers & not so great ones. We were all surprised when Chris "Breezy" Brown copped 3 Awards! Big up your self Breezy you are making a comeback.

5 Reasons you need an Event Host

Greetings Jah People,

The response/s from my last post was overwhelming and I thought I would share some information with you. After all , knowledge is power. Below are 5 reasons you need a Host for your Event.

1. Keep your agenda on time: Imagine having an Event that has no order; nobody knows who's doing what and when and how they will be doing it. The purpose of the event host is to keep give the patrons a sense of what is going on in a specific order.

2. For Entertainment: I would say this differs by personality as not every host is good at telling jokes or dancing to keep the crowd entertained. It is a great way to pass the time while the show is coming together back-stage without it being too obvious that they are not quite ready. Remember those days when people would bakkle people because they had to wait too long for a performance?

3. It creates an Awareness for your Event : Unless you are an extreme introvert , nobody keeps an event for people to not attend. There are certain Media personalities that people will gravitate towards and they will even go just to see that person. Ensure that you book your host well in advance as they are not sitting idly waiting to be booked.

4. Motivate your Audience: This kinda goes to the point above .. but in a different way. This motivation is not limited to one thing. Maybe the event is about a new product and as a Host a big part of your job is to motivate your audience to purchase the product.

5. It just looks better: This might seem a bit vain .. but it's true. Having an M.c makes you and your Event look better as opposed to a person trying a ting and doing it them self! Hiring an M.C to host your event gives your brand a certain look.

You can book Ron Muschette to Host your Events through Master One Productions Ltd

What Makes a Hit Song

Greetings Jah People! I have some knowledge I want to share with you. No artiste goes into the Music Business to just Sing! Most Artistes want a Hit Song. This hit song is the one that will sell music , book shows and get endorsements ( if you are lucky ) Below are a few things of what makes a Hit Song.

1. A Catchy Beat: These days you don't have to be a Jermaine Dupri to get that hit song. With this new wave of music and generation of people ... all an artiste really needs is a catchy beat. Really think about it .. how many times did you hear a song and you know the beat but not the words ... then when you learn the words you wonder "what kinda song dis".

2. Instruments used: Based on the Award Winning Documentary "20 Feet from Stardom" in 2013 , it was found that the songs that were on the Billboard top 100 either used a Synthesizer , Piano or Guitar. These sounds in the layman term are interesting to the ear and people will gravitate towards it. For example "Jim Screechie" Riddim and T-pain.

3. A Little bit of Talent ... a lot of Social Media Attention: This is not your Grandmas' generation everybody is on Social Media ... If you don't have a Social Media following .. dog nyam you suppa! A perfect example of this was Beyonce's Secret overnight Album release on YouTube followed by pictures on Instagram.

4. You Have to Repeat The Title ... Alot: Think of a song like Pharell William's Happy ... if you have any doubt at all what the song about ; you are re-assured in the Title , The Versus and of course the Chorus...People don't have time to sit down and learn the words to a song .. they want to hear a word and know that .. that's the Song .

5. You don't have to know the Language: If you are an Artiste and everybody knows the lyrics to your song .... you sir have been buss! Think of a Song like Timber with Pitbull & Ke$ha ..  this song is popular worldwide because of a wordless syllable "oooh" in the chorus or " Gangham Style" .. we have no idea what PSY is saying throughout the song but we have know "woop , woop , woop dem Gangham Style".

While these are all great tips for getting a hit song, hard work and dedication to your Art should not be overlooked. Rome wasn't built in a day Jah People ... Walk good and eat food

Whats Hot in Music Now

The last few weeks has been an interesting one for Jamaican Music. We love a Reggae Icon & Legend in Mr. John Holt who collapsed on stage in at the One Love Concert in London last month.

Spice & Kartel
This week we were all treated to a Conjugual Visit from Dance hall Artiste as the Video for the Single was released on Monday. The Video was first released on Worldstar_Hiphop.com and has amassed over 2 million hits. In the overly sensual Video, Spice is seen in Lingerie throughout as she prepares for a visit to Kartel.

Spice is slated to have an official Video Launch this Wednesday.

A Legendary Collab

Beenie Man & Bounty Killa

The last time we saw Beenie  Man and Bounty Killa on a collab was ....... ( wait for it ) now! The two popular Dancehall artistes dropped a big bomb that all took us by surprise when they decided to do a collab. The single "Legendary" was produced by Matthew "Esco" Thompson will be released later this month. According to Esco as it relates to Beenie man "He thought it was a perfect idea as both artistes wanted to record a single for a while, but it was difficult finalizing what the topic would be about" . Esco is also the co-writer of legendary and also described it as a hardcore club banger.

Jamaican Stuns on this Seasons "This Voice"

"Shes not Just a Girl , She's a Star" were the words of Judge Gwen Stefani when repeat Contestant
" Anita Antoinette" gave a show stopping performance on the 3rd night of the Season 7 of The Voice Blind Auditions.

The Jamaican born Singer received a full chair spin from all the Judges as she blazed the stage with her rendition of "Turn your Lights Down Low" by the Reggae Legend Bob Marley. This is not Antoinette's first time on the show as she auditioned a while ago where the judges thought she was not quite ready.

Antoinette thrilled the audience as she did the hook in true Jamaican Ska style which was greatly received by all the judges especially Gwen Stefani. Antoinette had the tough decision of selecting a judge that would best represent her talent , but in the end chose to work with Gwen Stefani.

Anita Antoinette singing " No Woman No Cry"

Since Tessane's Chin's win on the voice last year , more Jamaicans/ Jamaican born Reggae Singers have been taking the leap to audition for the Emmay Award winning show.

Will you be watching for Antoinette this season?

Ron Muschette Set to Launch New Chart

Veteran Irie FM broadcaster Ron Muschette is about to launch a World Reggae Top 20 chart countdown. The countdown will be aired during his weekly morning show on Irie FM and published in the local press.

Jyorken Kennedy ( left ) - Master One Productions C.E.O | Tydal ( middle ) Recording Artiste | Ron Muschette ( Right ) Irie FM / Master One Productions C.O.O

According to the Muschette, the idea of the chart was born out of a need to expose the work of artistes, both locally and internationally. Songs for consideration will be accepted via email, however, they will have to meet certain criteria.

"The quality of the single must be of high standard. A promotional plan for the single is to be outlined - the name of the artiste, producer, name of the song, and the label has to be submitted. A photo and biography of the artiste is to be submitted," Muschette explained.

He added, "All reggae songs worldwide will be considered, based on popularity, digital downloads, physical sales and request of your song through our Ron Muschette World Reggae Top 20 Chart research department, playlist from radio stations worldwide, voting, TV stations, streets, live concerts and other music network media. We will not be accepting submissions through phone communication, Facebook, Twitter, other social media or drop-offs. All the above must be sent via email to ronmuschetteworldreggaetop20@gmail.com

Songs containing profanity or expletives will not be accepted. Only songs from the reggae sub genre will be considered.

A change

"We are going to change the way that charts are being done and we are also going to make sure everything has credibility, stability and most importantly, of very high quality," Muschette reiterated.

The Ron Muschette World Reggae Top 20 chart is set to premiere in early October.

Thursday 18 September 2014
